Indoor Soccer at the Crete

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is registering teams for the second session of indoor soccer, to run from Jan. 20-March 12, 2009 at the Crete Memorial Civic Center. Each team will play eight games.

The following divisions are planned: (click title to read more) U-8 coed, U-10 coed, U-12 coed, U-14 boys, U-14 girls, high-school boys, high-school girls, open men, open women and over 30 men. Team fees are $595 for U-8, U-10, and $650 for all other teams. Individual fees are U-8 and U-10, $69 for city residents, $74 for non-residents; U-12, $65 for residents, $70 for non-residents. Checks or money orders only will be accepted; no cash.

Registration will be accepted until Jan. 7 at the Crete Center and also at the City Recreation Center. Registration received after Jan. 7 will incur a late charge. No teams will be accepted after Jan. 14. All teams must submit half the team fee by registration and the remaining balance by the second game.

Munchkin Soccer

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will accept children for its U-6 Munchkin Soccer Program until 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. Children must have been born between July 31, 2002 and Aug. 1, 2005 to be eligible.

Munchkin soccer will introduce children to fundamental soccer skills through basic drills and team play. The program will run Tuesdays, from 5-5:50 p.m., for six consecutive weeks, beginning Nov. 18.

City Basketball

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department has announced registration for its 2009 Youth Basketball Program. The city-sponsored program is open to all city youth in grades 3-6. Registration forms will be sent home from the city schools, or registration forms can be picked up at the City Gym, 52 U.S. Oval, during regular gym hours.

Forms should be returned to the City Recreation Office by Sunday, Nov. 30. Proof of city residency is required. Teams will participate in the Clinton County Youth Bureau League. Practices are expected to begin the first week of December, with games being held on Saturday mornings, starting Jan. 3, 2009.

The Recreation Department is in need of volunteer coaches to make this program successful. If you would be interested in coaching a team, please indicate it on your child's registration form. YMCA Basketball

The Plattsburgh YMCA is registering boys and girls in grades 1-4 for its eight-week youth basketball program, which will begin the week of Dec. 8. It is open to all with the deadline Dec. 1.

There are two divisions -- grades 1-2 and grades 3-4. Practices /scrimmages will be held after school (5 p.m.) and/or Saturdays. There will be two practices/scrimmages per week. Participants will receive a Plattsburgh YMCA basketball, t-shirt uniform and award.

Plattsburgh Town Basketball

The Town of Plattsburgh is conducting registration for the winter youth basketball program for girls and boys in grades 3-8. Practices will begin the week of Dec. 1 and will be either after school or in the evenings, depending on gym availability.

Games will be on Saturdays, beginning Jan. 10, for eight weeks. The 7/8 grade program will begin the end of February and run through March.

Registration forms were sent home throughout the Saranac and Beekmantown Central School Districts and need to be turned in either to the school or to the Town Recreation Department by Nov. 14. Late registrations will be placed on a waiting list with no guarantee of getting on a team.

Munchkin Soccer and Small Fry Sports

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for its Fall Munchkin Soccer and Small Fry Sports & Games classes. Children must be 3-5 years old to participate (must have been born between 11/12/02 and 9/30/05).

Munchkin Soccer will show children basic soccer skills through the use of drills and games. Small Fry Sports & Games allows children to learn basic fundamental skills in soccer, basketball and other games with an emphasis on promoting new friendships.

Small Fry Sports & Games will have two separate classes per week. Parents can choose either Tuesdays from 4:00-4:50pm or Wednesdays from 5-5:50pm. Each class will run for 6 consecutive weeks. Tuesday classes will begin on September 30th and Wednesday classes will begin on October 1st.

Munchkin Soccer will also have two separate classes. Parents can choose Tuesdays from 5:00-5:50pm or Wednesdays from 4:00-4:50pm. Each class will run for 6 consecutive weeks. Tuesday classes will begin on September 30th and Wednesday classes will begin on October 1st.

Fall Skating registration underway

The fall skating session will begin Oct. 4-5 at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse. Basic Skills lessons will be offered for Snowplow through Basic 8 levels, with a choice of a Saturday or Sunday session. The Saturday lesson schedule is as follows:

Basic 4-8 at 9:30-10:30 a.m. and Snowplow through Basic 3 at 9:45-10:30 a.m. The Sunday sessions will begin with Snowplow through Basic 3 at 3:45-4:30 p.m. and Basic 4 to 8 at 4:15-5:15 p.m. We will also be offering the Freestyle and Adult Group lessons on Sundays only from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

North Country Skating Club registration

The North Country Skating Club (NCSC) will hold open registration on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 and Tuesday Oct. 7, from 5:30--7:30 p.m., at the Rouses Point Recreation Center. NCSC offers group instruction for basic and freestyle levels Monday and Friday nights. Advanced skaters do not have group instruction.

The season will begin on Monday, Oct. 13 and continue through Monday, March 16. Registration fees are $190 for basic skills and $195 for freestyle and advanced. Payment plans are available; however, a $50 down payment is required at registration.

Saturday evening ice is available for an additional fee of $85 for the season. Private lessons are also available, but arrangements and fees are the responsibility of the skater and instructor.

Chazy Youth Hockey

YMCA Fall Soccer

The Plattsburgh YMCA will offer a soccer league for boys and girls ages 3 1/2 to 7. The program is divided into two divisions: Kickers (3 1/2 to 5) and Dribblers (6 to 7) with the instructional league designed to be a fun, family activity.
Registration will continue until Sept. 9 with the program to begin Saturday, Sept. 13. Children from all area communities are welcome to participate. The practice/games will run for 60-90 minutes on Saturday mornings only on the Bailey Ave. fields. All children will receive a tee-shirt uniform and trophy.

Free Tennis Clinic

Saturday, August 16 from 10:30 to noon at Plattsburgh High School. Being held by Dr. Bonnabesse for children ages 4 to 10. Plattsburgh Town Free Activities

The Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will be offering free hiking, arts and crafts, and fishing programs for all town residents throughout the month of August. All participants must register between now and one week prior to the specific program. Participants can register by stopping by or calling the Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department at 151 Banker Rd or 562-6860.


Hiking -- On Aug. 15, there will be a day hike to Pok-O-Moonshine Mountain, south of Keeseville. On Aug. 22, there will be a day hike to Lyon Mountain. Both hikes will leave the Town Office at 9 a.m. and return at around 3 p.m. Bus transportation to and from the mountain and supervision will be provided. The trip is open to any youth age 12 and up. Any adult wishing to go, please call us for availability.

Fishing -- Don Lee and his friends from Trout Unlimited will again hold a free two-day fishing program for any town resident 10 years of age and up, Aug. 12 and 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. All equipment will be provided. Both sessions will be at the Saranac River in Morrisonville. Participants 10 and 11 years of age must have adult supervision with them.

Art week -- The town is offering a multi-project art program at the Town Office. This year all participants between the ages of 8 and 12 years of age will attend two-hour sessions Monday, Aug. 18 through Thursday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon each day. Projects include papermaking, clay molding and more.

Football Camp

The Beekmantown Youth Commission will sponsor a football camp for children in grades 3-12 Aug. 4-8 at the Beekmantown Town Hall field from 9-11:30 a.m. The cost is $3 for Beekmantown residents and $30 for non-residents.

Parents may register their child at the Beekmantown Town Hall. Registration forms will also be available and accepted at the town hall field the first morning of camp from 8:15-8:45.

On Aug. 9, the group will attend a Plattsburgh North Stars game with the cost $3 per child, if the child would like to attend.

Plattsburgh FC Soccer tryouts

UPDATE: Rescheduled from August 10 to August 12. The Plattsburgh F.C. soccer club will hold tryouts on Sunday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 10 at the Plattsburgh State Field House turf field at the following times:

U-10/U-12 boys and girls at 5 p.m.

U-14 boys and girls at 6 p.m.

U-16/U-18 boys and girls at 7 p.m.

All players should arrive at least 15 minutes prior for registration. The tryout sessions are open to existing PFC players and new players are welcome. Players should attempt to attend both sessions.

Beach Days--Dannemora

Fun at the Beach Days offers all kinds of events for children in Dannemora this summer at Chazy Lake Beach, with the next event -- Family Day -- scheduled for Saturday, July 26. Games, races and food are in store from 1 to 4 p.m., with hamburgers and hot dogs provided. Families are asked to bring their own beverages and a dish, chips or dessert to share. The Back Porch Band will play at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, is Games Galore! and Fear Factor! Among the activities planned are kickball and an obstacle course.

Thursday, July 31, is Kayak Day, put on by the Clinton County Youth Bureau with lessons for beginners and up. Participants may bring their own kayaks; children under age 8 should bring their own properly-fitting life jacket. "It's All About Me" Day is set for Tuesday, Aug. 5, when kids will create a poster about themselves, a family tree with pictures and photo cube. Participates must bring their own photos.

At Aug. 12's Science Day, kids will create a cyclone, erupt a volcano, paint a plane or birdhouse to take home and build bridges. Explore Nature Day is Aug. 15, when kids can decorate their own bug keeper and learn how to capture, identify and keep their own critter. And on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the activities include sand art, magic color and watercolor.

The Town of Dannemora Youth Commission events, all from 1 to 4 p.m., are open to all children, but those under age 5 must have a parent along. Participants are asked to bring appropriate shoes, sun block, swimsuit, towel, snack and drink. Every day will include swimming and games. For more information, call 735-4033

Beekmantown Soccer Camp

The Beekmantown Youth Commission will sponsor a soccer camp for children in grades 1-12 July 28-Aug. 1 at the Beekmantown Town Hall fields from 9-11:30 a.m.

The cost is $10 for Beekmantown residents and $30 for non-residents. The cost includes a soccer ball.

Following info is from 7/16: The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is registering individuals for its Sailing Basics classes for youths (12 and older) and adults (18 and over). The classes are open to city and non-city residents. The fee is $175 with each class limited to 20 students.
The first session for each class will be July 21 to 25 with youth classes from 1 to 4 p.m. and adult classes, 5 to 8 p.m., at Wilcox Dock, off Cumberland Ave. Participants will learn the basics of rigging, points of sail, sailing maneuvers, safety and recovery and more. Students must provide their own personal flotation device.

The Town of Schuyler Falls is holding registration for its summer soccer program, which is open to town youths ages 4-14. Registration forms must be completed and returned to the town hall by Thursday, Aug. 7.

Fall Youth Soccer

The Town of Plattsburgh is currently accepting registrations for its fall youth soccer program, which is open to boys and girls ages 6-14. If there is enough interest, an instructional program will also be provided this year for children turning 5 years old by Oct. 31. This mini-mite session will be once a week at a park to be announced.

Parents can register their children for either program by completing a registration form at the Town Offices on Banker Road by Friday, July 18. No registrations will be taken by phone and those signing up after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list. Those who pre-registered in April do not need to register again.

Kids "Fast Feet" Track Meet

A Kids "Fast Feet" Track Meet, for kids ages 4-12, will be held Saturday, July 19, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Plattsburgh High School Track. Entry fee is $5, and entry is free for Fast Feet Track Camp athletes.

HeartSmart series begins July 2

The HeartSmart for Kids program from CVPH and the Town of Plattsburgh are again sponsoring the Fun Run/Walk series at the Cadyville Recreation Park. The seven-week program will get under way Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The fun runs are set up for age groups and distances as follows: Under 4- 1/4 mile run/walk, ages 4-6- 1/2 mile run/walk, ages 7-10 and ages 11-14- 1 mile run/walk and there is an Open Division- 5K run.

Participants who attend four out of seven fun runs will receive a free t-shirt.

Swim Schedule for the Town of Plattsburgh

The Town of Plattsburgh has released its summer swimming program schedule as follows:

Cadyville, Cliff Haven and East Morrisonville beaches

Monday, June 23 through Friday, Aug. 15 (Daily, 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.)

Bus transportation will begin June 30 for children from North Plattsburgh, Treadwells Mills, Cumberland Head, & South Plattsburgh. All areas will be bused to the East Morrisonville Beach for instruction Monday through Friday. Instructions will be held from noon to 2 p.m. for these areas with bus pick-ups and times as follows:

Cumberland Head -- 11:30 a.m. - Corner of Sears Blvd. and Moffett Rd., the Recreation Park, Cumberland Bay Market, Corner of Allen Rd. and Cumberland Head Rd., St. Mary's Church, Gus' Red Hots and Tara Lane.

North Plattsburgh -- 11:15 a.m. - May Currier Park, Corners of Facteau Avenue, Melody Lane, Graves Lane and Tom Miller Road; Corners of Wallace Hill Rd. and Michelle and Daytona Blvd.; Corners of Wallace Hill Rd and Bell Rd., Vintage Estates and Rasco Rd.; and the corner of Military Turnpike and Independence Dr.

Peru Baseball Camp

An informal baseball mini camp for Peru youths ages 8-13 is planned with the focus on sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence and commitment. The program will be July 1-3 and 7-10 from 9 a.m.-noon.

The idea behind the program is to develop the skills of players in the area between age 8-13 to advance to the next level in play.

Junior Volleyball Camp

The Beekmantown Booster Club will hold a Middle School Junior Digger Volleyball Camp July 7-10 for girls entering 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the fall.

Curle Hoop Camp

The TC Skills Boys' Basketball Camp will run from July 14-17 at Plattsburgh State with men's head coach Tom Curle, the director. Hours will be from 9 a.m. until noon. Participants should come dressed with t-shirt, shorts and basketball shoes.

Soccer Conditioning Camp

The Wellness Center at PARC will hold a Soccer Strength and Conditioning Camp for players 12-16. The camp will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30-8 p.m.

The Soccer Camp will begin July 7 and run for six weeks. Registration will run until Friday June 27. The Strength and Conditioning Camp is limited to the first 40 participants who register.

Windsurf Clinic July 12-13

Learn to Windsurf classes will be held July 12-13 at Plattsburgh Beach from 10 to 4. Class size will be limited, but walk-ins will be welcome, if space is available.

Professional instruction and equipment will be provided. The $15 fee will include professional simulated instruction on ground and individual one-on-one instruction on water. Parental permission will be required for participants under age 18.

Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs

The Clinton County Youth Bureau is hosting two Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs for children 14 years of age or older. The first program takes place August 13, 14 and 15 and the second program takes place August 20, 21 and 22; both programs begin at 9 AM.

Day 1 is a Paddle & Hike (out to Crab Island), Day 2 is a Paddle (down the Saranac), and Day 3 is a Hike (up Poke-O-Moonshine for the first program and up Lyon Mountain for the second program).

Summer Dance Program

Mrs. Barbara Racine-Hammond will be holding a summer dance program at the 34 Riley Avenue studio. Classes will be held on Wednesday late afternoons and evenings. Basketball Camp--this is 2008!!!

The Saranac Booster Club will again host the FUNdaMENTAL Basketball Camp at Saranac High School. The camp is open to students entering grades 4-12 in the fall.

Boys weeks will be June 30-July 4 and July 21-25. Coaches will include Mike Castine, Ryan Loucy, Andrew Castine, Jim Manchester, Gary Castine, and Brad Lavalley. Girls weeks will be July 7-11 and July 28-Aug. 1. Coaches will be Katie Castine, Chad Keysor, Andrew Castine, Mike Castine, and Gary Castine.


The camps will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with gym doors open at 8:15. The price for new campers is $120 for one week and $220 for two weeks. The price for 2007 campers will be $100 for one week and $200 for two weeks.

Little League Tryouts

Introduction to Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Packs 39 and 55 and Troops 39 & 55 will host a special evening event to give a "Taste of Scouting" to anyone interested, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church on Beekman Street.

Cub events will include racing cars on a Pinewood Derby track and racing sailboats in a Raingutter Regatta. Scouts will demonstrate camping skills and provide the campfire for making s'mores.

Cub Scouting is designed as a family-centered program, and the entire family is invited to participate each week.

Boy Scouting provides training in leadership skills and group teamwork.

North Country Baseball Camp

The North Country Baseball Camp will be held July 14-18 at Laphams Mills Park in Peru. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon on Friday. Plattsburgh State baseball coach Kris Doorey will serve as camp director. For a camp brochure, contact Doorey, at dooreykm@plattsburgh.edu.

Campers will receive five days of expert instruction, a camp t-shirt, small camper-coach ratio, written skills evaluation and individual grouping according to age and ability. City Swim and Tennis instruction

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will offer instructional swimming and instructional tennis this summer. Both programs are open to city residents at no charge.

Registration for both will be June 9-12, from 4-8 p.m., and June 13, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., in the City gym, 52 U.S. Oval. A parent or guardian must accompany the child to registration and show proof of city residency.

The swim program, offering three two-week sessions, will begin June 30 with times varying according to skill level.

The tennis program will have four one-week sessions, starting Monday, July 7. Classes will be from 9-10:15 a.m. and 10:30-11:45 a.m.

At the end of each session, parents will be allowed the opportunity to register for any open slots in the next session.

Tennis Camp

The City Recreation Department will hold Summer Youth Tennis Camps for ages 7-16 at the Plattsburgh High School tennis courts. The four sessions will run July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25 and July 28-Aug. 1. Each session will offer Class A, from 9-10:15 a.m., and Class B, from 10:30-11:45 a.m.

Munchkin Soccer and Small Fry Sports

UPDATE: The 4pm class is not Small Fry Sports; it has been changed to Munchkin Soccer. So there are 2 Munchkin Soccers classes--one at 4 and one at 5 (on Mondays).

The City Rec. Dept. is accepting registration for its Summer Munchkin Soccer and Summer Small Fry Sports & Games classes. The classes are for children born between July 14, 2005 and Aug. 30, 2002.

Munchkin Soccer will teach basic soccer skills, and Small Fry Sports & Games will teach fundamentals of soccer, basketball and other games with an emphasis on promoting new friendships.

Sports & Games will run on Mondays from 4-4:50 p.m., and Soccer will run Mondays from 5-5:50 p.m. Both will start on July 21 and last six weeks. Registration is accepted at the Rec. Track and Field Camp

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will offer a Fast Feet Track and Field Camp for area youths ages 4-12. It is meant to teach the fundamentals of track in a fun, noncompetitve environment. Form, speed agility, nutrition, stretching and common exercise tips will be among the topics covered.

The camp will run July 14-18. Ages 7-12 will meet from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, while ageses 4-6 will meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4-5 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a track meet with age group competition. Registration is $8 for city residents and $13 for nonresidents.

Hoop Camp

The Peru Indians Big Blue Hoop Camp, offering instruction, guest speakers and added events, will be held July 7-11 at the high school this year. The camp will include half-day sessions (9 a.m.-noon) for athletes entering grades 1-2 at a cost of $55 per camper and full-day sessions (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) for students entering grades 3-9 at a cost of $110. The final day for all campers sessions will feature an awards ceremony and pizza party at 12:30 p.m.
Registration will start at 8:15 a.m. Monday, July 7, in the Peru High School Lobby. Walk-ins will be accepted, but pre-registrations are preferred.

Volleyball Academy

The Third-Annual Beekmantown Booster Club Volleyball Academy will run for two weeks in July. The academy is limited to a total of 60 athletes with the deadline for registration June 15.

The academy is intended for female athletes entering the junior varsity (grades 9-10) or varsity level (grades 11-12 and incoming college freshman) next season.

The sessions will be July 14-18 and July 21-25.

YMCA T-Ball and Baseball registration underway

The Plattsburgh YMCA is registering for its t-ball league (boys & girls ages 3½-5) and coach-pitch leagues (ages 6-7). The instructional league will start May 10 at the Blumette Park on Sandra Ave. in Plattsburgh. Children from all area communities are welcome to participate. Practice/games will run for 60-90 minutes on Saturday mornings for eight weeks. The 31/2-5 age group will go from 9-10:15 a.m. and the 6-7 group from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

Baseball Skills Clinic May 8

The Clinton County Youth Bureau, Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department and SUNY Plattsburgh men's baseball team will conduct its annual baseball skills clinic and Pitch-Hit-Run competition Thursday, May 8, at SUNY Plattsburgh's Chip Cummings Field.

The free clinic will take place from 5-6 p.m. The free Pitch-Hit-Run competition for boys and girls 7-14 years of age as of July 17, 2008 will begin at 6 p.m. Participants must submit a copy of their birth certificate when they register. Metal cleats will not be allowed.

The Plattsburgh F.C. soccer club is accepting registration for its U-8 Development Program, which will run for seven Thursdays, beginning May 8. It will run from 5:15-6:30 p.m. on the Plattsburgh oval soccer fields.

Youth Track and Field Games

The Clinton County Youth Bureau will sponsor the 2008 Hershey Track and Field Games for Youth at Peru High School Track and Field Complex Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 (age determined as of Dec. 31, 2008) may enter a maximum of two track and one field event or one track and two field events.


Events are: 50-, 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes; 800- and 1,600-meter and 4 x 100m relay; standing long jump and softball throw. Events vary per age group.

Registration is free and event winners are eligible to advance to the New York State West finals at Ilion High School this summer. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. May 10. Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate to submit at registration. Spiked track shoes will not be allowed.

Little League registration

Plattsburgh Little League will continue to hold registration for the 2008 season on Monday and Tuesday, April 21-22 at Stafford Middle School. Registration will be from 6-7:30 p.m.
Any child who lives in the City or Town of Plattsburgh who turns seven before April 30, 2008 or age 13 after May 1, 2008 is eligible. A copy of the birth certificate is required and three proofs of residency. The fees are $10 for city residents and $30 for town residents.

Peru Baseball/Softball

The Town Of Peru Youth Commission is accepting applications for the baseball/softball programs. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the Peru Town Hall from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday--Friday.

Each application must be accompanied by a birth certificate to verify the age of the participant.

Also, the Youth Commission will hold a final registration for summer employment, the summer programs and fall soccer on April 26 at Laphams Mills Recreational Park from 9 a.m.-noon. For more information, call John Flynn, at 726-6231.

Plattsburgh City Girls' Softball

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for summer girls' softball, which is run by the Clinton County Youth Bureau. Registration deadline is May 5, with registrations available at the Recreation Department Office, 52 US Oval, or online at www.cretesports.com.

There is no fee and it open to all City of Plattsburgh residents. Age levels will be as follows: Grasshopper, must have been born between 8/1/98 and 7/31/01; Peewee, must have been born between 8/1/95 and 7/31/98; and Pony, must have been born between 8/1/91 and 7/31/95.
