Swim Schedule for the Town of Plattsburgh

The Town of Plattsburgh has released its summer swimming program schedule as follows:

Cadyville, Cliff Haven and East Morrisonville beaches

Monday, June 23 through Friday, Aug. 15 (Daily, 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.)

Bus transportation will begin June 30 for children from North Plattsburgh, Treadwells Mills, Cumberland Head, & South Plattsburgh. All areas will be bused to the East Morrisonville Beach for instruction Monday through Friday. Instructions will be held from noon to 2 p.m. for these areas with bus pick-ups and times as follows:

Cumberland Head -- 11:30 a.m. - Corner of Sears Blvd. and Moffett Rd., the Recreation Park, Cumberland Bay Market, Corner of Allen Rd. and Cumberland Head Rd., St. Mary's Church, Gus' Red Hots and Tara Lane.

North Plattsburgh -- 11:15 a.m. - May Currier Park, Corners of Facteau Avenue, Melody Lane, Graves Lane and Tom Miller Road; Corners of Wallace Hill Rd. and Michelle and Daytona Blvd.; Corners of Wallace Hill Rd and Bell Rd., Vintage Estates and Rasco Rd.; and the corner of Military Turnpike and Independence Dr.

South Plattsburgh -- 11:25 a.m. -- Corner of South Junction Road and Rt. 22, Corner of Salmon River Road and Rt. 22,Rt. 22 and LTS Homes, Corner of Irish Settlement Road and Pleasant Ridge Road, entrance to Abenaki Trailer Court and Corner of Runway Dr. & Rt. 22.

Treadwells Mills -- 11:30 a.m. - in front of Pine Rest Trailer Court, the Recreation Park, Brown Road, Cross Road and the entrances to Rugar Park.

Children in all areas may still register by simply attending the first day of lessons, during which they will be tested for ability and enrolled in an appropriate level class. Town of Schuyler Falls children may also enroll in classes at Cadyville or East Morrisonville.

Anyone wishing further information about the swimming program is asked to call the Town Recreation Department, at 562-6860 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Peru Baseball Camp

An informal baseball mini camp for Peru youths ages 8-13 is planned with the focus on sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence and commitment. The program will be July 1-3 and 7-10 from 9 a.m.-noon.

The idea behind the program is to develop the skills of players in the area between age 8-13 to advance to the next level in play.

Junior Volleyball Camp

The Beekmantown Booster Club will hold a Middle School Junior Digger Volleyball Camp July 7-10 for girls entering 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the fall.

The camp will be held at Beekmantown High School gymnasium with hours 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Curle Hoop Camp

The TC Skills Boys' Basketball Camp will run from July 14-17 at Plattsburgh State with men's head coach Tom Curle, the director. Hours will be from 9 a.m. until noon. Participants should come dressed with t-shirt, shorts and basketball shoes.


The fee is $120 with a $50 deposit due at registration. For more information, call Cameron Conover, Assistant Coach, at 564-4151.

Soccer Conditioning Camp

The Wellness Center at PARC will hold a Soccer Strength and Conditioning Camp for players 12-16. The camp will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30-8 p.m.

The Soccer Camp will begin July 7 and run for six weeks. Registration will run until Friday June 27. The Strength and Conditioning Camp is limited to the first 40 participants who register.

Windsurf Clinic July 12-13

Learn to Windsurf classes will be held July 12-13 at Plattsburgh Beach from 10 to 4. Class size will be limited, but walk-ins will be welcome, if space is available.

Professional instruction and equipment will be provided. The $15 fee will include professional simulated instruction on ground and individual one-on-one instruction on water. Parental permission will be required for participants under age 18.

Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs

The Clinton County Youth Bureau is hosting two Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs for children 14 years of age or older. The first program takes place August 13, 14 and 15 and the second program takes place August 20, 21 and 22; both programs begin at 9 AM.

Day 1 is a Paddle & Hike (out to Crab Island), Day 2 is a Paddle (down the Saranac), and Day 3 is a Hike (up Poke-O-Moonshine for the first program and up Lyon Mountain for the second program).

Summer Dance Program

Mrs. Barbara Racine-Hammond will be holding a summer dance program at the 34 Riley Avenue studio. Classes will be held on Wednesday late afternoons and evenings. The course is six weeks starting June 25. There will be no classes the week of July 4. Classes will resume July 9 to August 6. The course is $48 registration fee is $7. Registration fee is due at sign-up. Classes available are: Tap/Jazz-Hip hop Combo, Tap/Ballet Combo, Ballet and Preschool. Levels Beginner to Advanced. Call 563-5979 for more information.

Summer Hoops registration deadline is July 7

Thomas J. O'Connor Memorial Summer Hoops for Youth will take place Thursday, July 10. Check in is from 9-9:45 and the games start at 10 AM. Location is at the City Gym Parking Lot on the US Oval. 3 Person Teams only. For girls and boys ages 8 to 18 but no Coed teams may enter the tournament. Basketball Camp--this is 2008!!!

The Saranac Booster Club will again host the FUNdaMENTAL Basketball Camp at Saranac High School. The camp is open to students entering grades 4-12 in the fall.

Boys weeks will be June 30-July 4 and July 21-25. Coaches will include Mike Castine, Ryan Loucy, Andrew Castine, Jim Manchester, Gary Castine, and Brad Lavalley. Girls weeks will be July 7-11 and July 28-Aug. 1. Coaches will be Katie Castine, Chad Keysor, Andrew Castine, Mike Castine, and Gary Castine.


The camps will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with gym doors open at 8:15. The price for new campers is $120 for one week and $220 for two weeks. The price for 2007 campers will be $100 for one week and $200 for two weeks.

Forms may be picked up from the coaches, Finney Sports, or by calling Gary Castine, at 298-5536. All campers will receive a ball, camp shirt, and an evaluation at the end of the week.

Little League Tryouts

Plattsburgh Little League will hold its all-star team tryouts Sunday, June 15, at Penfield Park. The 11-12-year-old tryouts will be from 10 a.m. until noon and the 10 & under tryouts, from 1-3 p.m.

Participants of Plattsburgh Little League are the only players eligible and to be considered for either team you must attend the tryout. For more information, contact Jake Sherman, at 566-0140.

Introduction to Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Packs 39 and 55 and Troops 39 & 55 will host a special evening event to give a "Taste of Scouting" to anyone interested, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church on Beekman Street.

Cub events will include racing cars on a Pinewood Derby track and racing sailboats in a Raingutter Regatta. Scouts will demonstrate camping skills and provide the campfire for making s'mores.

Cub Scouting is designed as a family-centered program, and the entire family is invited to participate each week.

Boy Scouting provides training in leadership skills and group teamwork.

Youth Fishing Contest

The Youth Fishing Contest to benefit the North Country Down Syndrome Association will be held June 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the American Legion Post 1619's restored pond. Cougar Basketball Camp

North Country Baseball Camp

The North Country Baseball Camp will be held July 14-18 at Laphams Mills Park in Peru. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon on Friday. Plattsburgh State baseball coach Kris Doorey will serve as camp director. For a camp brochure, contact Doorey, at dooreykm@plattsburgh.edu.

Campers will receive five days of expert instruction, a camp t-shirt, small camper-coach ratio, written skills evaluation and individual grouping according to age and ability. The North Country Baseball Camp is geared toward the instruction of students entering grades 1-11. Basic skills needed to develop a strong foundation for future athletic success are stressed.

Preschool Swim Lessons

The Plattsburgh YMCA will offer swim lessons for children ages 3-4. The lessons will be three days a week for four weeks, beginning June 2. City Swim and Tennis instruction

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will offer instructional swimming and instructional tennis this summer. Both programs are open to city residents at no charge.

Registration for both will be June 9-12, from 4-8 p.m., and June 13, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., in the City gym, 52 U.S. Oval. A parent or guardian must accompany the child to registration and show proof of city residency.

The swim program, offering three two-week sessions, will begin June 30 with times varying according to skill level.

The tennis program will have four one-week sessions, starting Monday, July 7. Classes will be from 9-10:15 a.m. and 10:30-11:45 a.m.

At the end of each session, parents will be allowed the opportunity to register for any open slots in the next session.
