Soccer Tryouts

Soccer United has scheduled informal tryouts and registration for any players ages 6-18 interested in joining the program for the outdoor season, which runs from early April until the second week in July.

The sessions are open to any current and non-current indoor players. Any player wishing to join Soccer United must attend at least three or more of the informal tryout sessions. These sessions will be held at Crete Center.

Check the schedule below for the sessions for your age group.

The sessions will start Jan. 21 and run until Feb. 25.

Ages 6-10 — Monday session runs from 4-5 p.m. boys and girls

Ages 11-12 — Wednesday session runs from 4-5 p.m. boys and girls

Ages 13-14 — Saturday session runs from 9-10 a.m. boys only

Ages 13-14 — Sunday session runs from 10-11 a.m. girls only

Ages 15 and above — Saturday session runs from 8-9 a.m. boys only

Ages 15 and above — Sunday session runs from 11 a.m.-noon girls only

Youth Basketball

The towns of Plattsburgh and Schuyler Falls are co-sponsoring an instructional youth basketball program for girls and boys in grades 1-2. The program will be held on Saturdays from 6-7 p.m. at the Morrisonville Elementary School gym, from Jan. 24-Feb. 28, 2009.

Children will have the opportunity to learn basic basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting without the pressure of competition.

Anyone who resides in the towns of Plattsburgh or Schuyler Falls is welcome to attend. The program is free of charge. Environmental Education Camp Scholarships

The Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will offer a limited number of camperships to the DEC Environmental Camps at Colby, DeBruce, Rushford, and Pack Forest.

These camperships will award $275 toward the $325 cost of attending one of the week-long sessions which are held during July and August. The DEC camp programs offer 12-to-17 year-old campers a week of outdoor and environmental education, hiking and canoeing. YMCA Indoor Soccer

The Plattsburgh YMCA is offering a junior indoor soccer league for boys and girls ages 3½-7 years at the YMCA gym. This program is divided into two divisions: Kickers (3½-5) and Dribblers (6-7).

The program runs from 4:15-5:15 p.m. once a week during the week for the Kickers and 5:30-6:30 p.m. once a week during the week for the Dribblers. The instructional league is designed to be a fun, family activity, while learning how to play soccer.

You may register at the Downtown YMCA, 17 Oak St. Children from all area communities are welcome.

The practice/games will run for one hour for 8 weeks beginning the week of Feb. 9, 2009. Children will receive a t-shirt uniform and an award. The cost is $28 for YMCA members and $52 for all others. Deadline is Feb. 4, 2009.

Beartown Ski and Snowboard Club

The Beartown Ski and Snowboard club is a recreational and instructional program for children interested in skiing or snowboarding. The program is for children ages 5 and up.

The ski club has practices Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and will run through mid-March, weather permitting. Members do not need to attend every practice; they can choose the schedule that works best for them. Register now for the season.
