Soccer Camp Summer 2009

The Vermont Soccer Academy at the University of Vermont has announced camp dates for 2009. The day camp will run from June 22-26, the Premier/Team Residential from July 19-23, and the goalkeeper/striker clinc from July 27-31.

Family Winter Outdoor Adventure Program

The Clinton County Youth Bureau and Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will co-host a Family Winter Outdoor Adventure Program Feb. 17-19, 2009. The free, three-day program will introduce youths, 7 years of age and older and their families to such skills as hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, environmental issues, winter survival, team work and outdoor leadership skills. Previous hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing skills not required.

The three-day program will consist of:

1. Tuesday, Feb. 17 — Group will be introduced to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at Cadyville Rec. Park.

2. Wednesday, Feb. 18 — Group will meet at Cumberland Head Rec. Park. Where they will snowshoe while learning how to navigate in the outdoors, learn about the environment and go on a scavenger hunt.

3. Thursday, Feb. 19 — Group will meet at Cliff Haven Rec. Park. Where they will snowshoe and learn some winter survival skills, as well as, work together in team games and activities.

All equipment will be provided. Hot chocolate will be served each day. The program will begin at 2 p.m. daily and end at 4 p.m. each afternoon. Pre-registration is required. Vacation Activities through Plattsburgh Town

The Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will be offering the following programs free to any Town resident during the school vacation:

Cross-country skiing — Sessions will be held at the Cadyville Recreation Park on Goddeau Road, Feb. 17-19, from 1-3 p.m. each day. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling the Recreation Department, at 562-6860, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Equipment will be provided at no cost to those needing it. The caller will need to supply the skier's/snowshoe's height, shoe size and the date of which he or she wishes to ski/snowshoe. Sessions will be filled on a first-to-call, first-to-choose the day basis.

Ice skating — Free ice time is available to all town residents — young and old — at the SUNY Plattsburgh Fieldhouse Feb. 17-19, from 11 — 30 a.m.-12 — 30 p.m. each day. Skate rentals will be available, free of charge.

Archery — Instructional archery classes will be held for children ages 8-13 at Gander Mountain Feb. 17-18, from 6-7 p.m.

Equipment will be provided, free of charge. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by calling the Recreation Department at 562-6860.

Beartown Ski Area — Residents are invited to come and ski, snowboard or snowtube for free at Beartown Feb. 20, from 6-9 p.m. Call Viking Ski, Board & Cycle for special pricing on rentals.

Titus Mountain Ski Trip — Join us for a day trip to Titus Mountain in Malone Feb. 16. The program is open to ages 13 years and up. Transportation will be provided and space is limited.
