Peru Youth Sports sign-ups

The Town of Peru Youth Commission will hold registration for summer activities, including baseball/softball, and fall soccer on Friday, April 3, from 6-9 p.m., and Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9 a.m.-noon, at the Peru town Hall.

Currently, a survey is being circulated throughout the Peru and Intermediate schools seeking information on interest and participation in the summer programs. All town residents are encouraged to fill out the survey and return it to the school office by March 20. The Youth Commission is committed to obtaining as much information as possible to allow for activities that would involve as many children as possible.

City Baseball and Softball

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is accepting registration for the youth baseball and softball leagues run by the Clinton County Youth Bureau. Registration deadline is April 27, 2009.

Baseball/Softball/T-ball registration

The Town of Schuyler Falls is registerings town youths, ages 4-16, for baseball, softball and t-ball.

Registration forms are available at the town hall, Under One Roof Video, Rock's Grocery and Tops Market on the Irish Settlement Road. All forms must be completed and returned to the town hall by Thursday, April 16, 2009. Late registrations will be placed on a waiting list with no guarantee of playing.

YMCA Baseball/T-ball signups

The Plattsburgh YMCA has begun registration for its t-ball league (boys & girls ages 3.5-5) and coach-pitch leagues (ages 6-7). This instructional league starts May 9 at the Blumette Park on Sandra Ave. in Plattsburgh.

Children from all area communities are welcome to participate. The practice/games will run for 60-90 minutes on Saturday mornings for eight weeks. The 3.5-5 year-olds go from 9-10:15 a.m. and the 6-7 year-olds go from 10:30 a.m.-noon. All children will receive a t-shirt, hat and trophy.

Spring Fun Runs 2009

For families with youth. FREE (and very fun).

1/4 Mile--ages 6 and under.
1/2 Mile--ages 7 to 10.
1 Mile--ages 11 to 13.
1 Mile--Parent Run.

These runs will take place on the bike path behind the city gym on the Oval. Four Saturdays in April--April, 4, 11, 18 and 25. Registration begins at 9:45 and the first run starts promptly at 10 AM.

Pre-run stretching, Group warm-up runs, and running tips. No pets please.

YMCA Floor Hockey

The Plattsburgh YMCA will continue registration for its youth floor hockey league for boys and girls in grades K-4 until Wednesday, March 4, 2009. The instructional program has practices/games in the YMCA gym Saturdays for eight weeks, beginning March 7, with an emphasis on fun, saftey and fundamental skills.

Each child will receive a t-shirt uniform and trophy. The program includes an end-of-the-season swim and pizza party at the YMCA. A mouthguard is required of all participants.

Baseball/Softball Season registration

The Clinton County Youth Bureau has begun planning for the 2009 baseball/softball season. The season will start Tuesday, June 9 and end on Thursday, July 23, 2009.

The age categories (as per date of birth) and schedules are as follows: grasshopper, ages 7-9, Wednesday, June 10-Saturday, July 18; peewee, ages 10-12, Tuesday, June 9-Friday, July 17; and pony, ages 13-16, Monday, June 15-Thursday, July 23.

YMCA Sign-ups Summer Camp

The Plattsburgh YMCA will begin registration for summer day camp programs on March 2 for YMCA members and will be available at the YMCA (located on the corner of Oak & Brinkerhoff Streets) and on line at www.plattsburghymca.com.

The YMCA offers Camp Jericho for boys & girls ages 5-13, Junior Camp K-2 for boys & girls in grades K-2 and Y's Kids Camp for boys & girls ages 3-5. Sting Girls Basketball

The Plattsburgh Sting AAU basketball program is gearing up for its fifth season. The program works during the off-season to improve the skills of girls now in grades 7 to 11 in the Plattsburgh City School District.

The Sting teams plan to participate in four tournaments during the spring and early summer. Sting is expecting to field two teams: one for current sophomores and juniors and a younger team for girls now in seventh, eighth and ninth grade.

Little League Registration

Plattsburgh Little League will hold registration for the 2009 season Monday, March 9, Tuesday, March 10, and Monday, March 16, from 6-8 p.m., at Stafford Middle School.

Children ages 7-12 who live within the Plattsburgh Little League boundaries are eligible to enroll to play baseball. Registration is required even if the child played previously. At least one parent or legal guardian must be present, with three proofs of residence, and an original birth certificate. The documents will be returned at registration.
