Ages 4-18
Cost: $15/session. Discounts available for multi child and multi sessions.

All sessions held at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse indoors on Rugar Street.

YMCA Basketball 2010-2011

The YMCA is accepting registrations for this season's basketball. There are 2 divisions--the 1st and 2nd graders are grouped together and the 3rd and 4th graders are grouped together. Practice start times will be between 4:00 & 5:00 PM during the week and or Sat. morning. The session will run from 12/13/2010 to 02/05/2011.

TC Skills Basketball Camp 2010

The Plattsburgh State men's basketball program will host its annual TC Skills boys basketball camp on campus at Memorial Hall.

The camp is for boys ages 8-17 and runs June 28-July 1. The camp will be directed by head coach Tom Curle and associate head coach Cameron Conover and have members of the team as counselors.

Artquest Camps

The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts' summer Artquest program for children ages 6 to 14 runs from July 12 through Aug. 20, with morning and afternoon sessions.

This summer, students will "travel" to Africa, Europe, Australia, North America and Asia. Among other projects, they will make drums, a Greek picture vase, create their own coat of arms, construct totem poles, dream catchers, make a pet dragon and learn origami.

Archery Camp

This is the perfect time to try this activity! Learn how to “set the nock” and what the “fletching” is. No experience needed here, we’ll provide everything you need. Ready, take aim; shoot for the Bull’s Eye!

Summer Camps--ages 12 to 17

Full or partial scholarships for two summer camps are available to any children ages 12 through 17 living in the Adirondacks.

Weeks for 12- to 14-year-olds at Camp Colby near Saranac Lake, which features environmental education, start on June 27 and go through Aug. 7.

At Pack Forest Camp, near Warrensburg, that same age group can take part for a week at a time July 18 through 24 and Aug. 1 through 7.

Weeks for 15- to 17-year-olds are June 27 through July 17 and July 25 through 31.

To qualify, students need to show a sincere interest in living in the outdoors in a natural setting with other campers and participating in fun activities, classes and games that teach the wise use of natural resources.

The scholarships are sponsored by the Cold River Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club, located in the central Adirondacks. Enrollment is limited and will depend on space available. Two scholarships will be awarded.

Big Blue Hoop Camp

The Peru Indians Big Blue Hoop Camp will be held from July 5-9 for boys and girls entering grades 2-5 and July 12-16 for boys and girls entering grades 6-8 at the Peru Central School Primary and Intermediate gyms.

There will be a Chazy summer soccer camp starting June 28 and running through July 2, going from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Babe Ruth signups 2010

The Plattsburgh Babe Ruth League Board of Directors will be holding a meeting on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Ground Round. Those interested in coaching this season can call league president Randy Lozier, at 572-6563.

Teen Discovery Camp 2010

The YMCA will offer a summer teen (ages 13-18) camp on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The camp will consist of teens discovering the outdoors, which would include beach, hiking, nature/science activities and other events. They will also be working with the community doing community service projects such as visiting nursing homes, animal shelters and working with other YMCA camps.

Option 1 runs from June 28-July 2 from 9-11 a.m. for ages 4-6.

Jump Camp 2010

The 10th-Annual Beekmantown Booster Club Jump Camp will be June 21—Aug. 12 at Beekmantown High School for athletes entering grades 7-12 for the 2010/2011 school year.

Jump Camp is an affordable 8-week speed and conditioning program designed to prepare athletes for school sports. Workouts are performed on Mondays and Thursdays and typically last an hour and a half. Morning and evening sessions are available.

Out-of-district athletes and college athletes are welcome. Applications are available online at the Beekmantown Central School District website www.bcsdk12.org under athletics. Campers are asked to register by June 16.

Strength and Conditioning Camp

J&B's Strength and Conditioning Camp, for ages 9 through college-age athletes of any sport, will be held for six weeks, beginning June 28, at CV Fitness in Plattsburgh. It will run Monday through Thursday from either 8-9:30 a.m. or 9:15-10:45 a.m.

The camp is designed for education, technique training and sport specific training for all athletes at various levels. Local college and high-school coaches will share their expertise in sport specific training such as: power lifting techniques, proper program design and agility progression and speed training. Campers can sign up for one week or progress for all six weeks.

The North Country Baseball Camp will run from July 12-16 at Laphams Mills Park in Peru. The camp is open to any student entering grades 1-12.

Spring Fun Runs

The Spring Youth Fun Runs, a five-week series offered by the City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department, will begin Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m., at the old base gym. Stretching and training tips also will be offered.

Little League

Children ages 7-12 (by 4/30/10), who live within the Plattsburgh Little League boundaries are eligible to enroll to play baseball.

Theatre for Youth

8-18 years.

"Fundamentals of Theater" 9:00am-11:00am
Students learn the basic skills of performing. Ages 8-18.
Students will perform a series of short comic skits.
(This course is a prerequisite for all other “Theater for Youth” courses)

"The Advanced Performer" 11:00am-1:00pm
Students are instructed in the use of more advanced skills. Ages 8-18.
Students will perform a medium length play.
(Students must receive instructor’s approval before registering for this course)

"Character Enhancement" 1:00pm-3:00pm
Students learn advanced emotional expression, as well as self analyzation and character development. Ages 12-18.
Students will perform 2 full-length monologues with foreign accents of their choice.
(Prerequisite(s): Fundamentals of Theater, The Advanced Performer)

"The Improvised Performer" 3:00pm-5:00pm
Students learn skills relating to improvisational theater. Ages 12-18.
Students will perform one improvised play as well as several theater games.
(Prerequisite(s): Fundamentals of Theater)


Classes begin on Saturday, March 27th.
End-of-term performances will commence on Saturday, May 22nd .

Youth Floor Hockey

The Plattsburgh YMCA will continue registration for its youth floor hockey league for boys and girls in grades K-4 until March 4, 2010. The instructional program has practices/games in the YMCA gym Saturdays for eight weeks with an emphasis on fun, safety and fundamental skills.

Each child will receive a t-shirt, uniform and trophy. The program includes an end-of-the-season swim and pizza party at the YMCA. A mouthguard is required of all participants.

Athletic Camp

The Wellness Center at PARC will host a four-day athletic camp Feb. 15-18 for ages 14-18. The program is designed to educate and apply basic to advanced training techniques in order to enhance athletic performance in sports.

These training techniques have also been shown to decrease the chances of injury. Skills learned will be general in nature and can be applied to a variety of different sport specific situations. The skills include: linear acceleration, lateral acceleration, deceleration, reaction, speed, power, cutting techniques, coordination, mobility, and strength.

Proper strength training form will be taught as well. The instructor will assess movement patterns on the first day of the program in order to determine each athlete's initial skill level. Each athlete's movement patterns will be visually assessed in an ongoing effort throughout the program.

Basketball

The towns of Plattsburgh and Schuyler Falls are co-sponsoring an instructional youth basketball program for girls and boys in grades 1 and 2 from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturdays at the Morrisonville Elementary School gym from Jan. 16 through Feb. 27. Children will have the opportunity to learn basic basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting without the pressure of competition.
