Outdoor Adventure Program

The Clinton County Youth Bureau and Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will co-host an Outdoor Summer Adventure Program from August 10 to August 12.

This free three-day program will introduce youth, 14 years of age and older, to such skills as hiking, flat-water kayaking, map reading, environmental and historical issues, team work and outdoor leadership skills. Previous hiking and/or paddling skills are not required. The three-day program will consist of:

Wednesday, August 10: Paddle. Group will flat-water kayak on the Saranac River on Cadyville Beach. The group will learn basic flat-water kayaking skills including forward, reverse, sweep, brace, and sculling strokes. Group will also learn individual and team rescues.

Thursday, August 11: Paddle. Group will flat-water kayak approximately 7.5 miles down the Saranac River from Saranac to the Cadyville Beach. We will discuss; river paddling skills and how they differ from open water (lake) paddling.

Friday, August 12: Hike. Groups will be bussed to Poke-O-Moonshine to hike up this popular mountain.

All equipment will be provided. Being able to swim is required. Pre-registration is required by July 25. For further information on this program, or to pre-register, call the Clinton County Youth Bureau, at 565-4750, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily Monday through Friday.
